In pursuit of making your top drawer full of whimsical, good-quality undergarments, Clara de Pretis developed Buttercup. Assembled in a factory in Izmir, Turkey, the production of pieces is overseen by Şahika, the chairwoman of the local Women's Business Association. Over the years, Clara has built a friendship with her (and her fluffy white dog, Bimbo), so she knows the people behind each stitch. Every piece, including tanks and pants, is made of 95% or 100% organic cotton, using less water and emitting fewer greenhouse gases than regular cotton. This material must also meet the Global Organic Textile Standard, which ensures that workers are in safe, clean environments, making a living wage, are choosing to be there, and that no child labour is used, ever.
